Undergraduate and Post-Baccalaureate Research Opportunities

The BEAT Lab occasionally has openings for motivated undergraduate or post-baccalaureate volunteer research assistants. These positions are ideal for students planning to pursue graduate or medical school who are seeking hands-on research experience in behavioral medicine, cardiovascular health, and psychosocial processes. Students gain experience in data collection, literature review, and study coordination, and may have opportunities to contribute to conference presentations and manuscripts.

If you are interested in being considered for a position, please email your CV and a brief introductory message describing your interests and goals to Dr. Diana Chirinos (dchirinos@miami.edu). All research activities are conducted in person at the University of Miami.

Doctoral Students

Dr. Chirinos will be reviewing applications for doctoral students through the Clinical Psychology Ph.D. program at the University of Miami for Fall 2026. Students interested in behavioral medicine, cardiovascular health, sleep, and bereavement are especially encouraged to apply.

Doctoral students receive close mentorship in research design, scientific writing, and professional development, with the expectation of developing an independent program of research during their training.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to review the University of Miami’s Clinical Psychology program website for details about admission requirements and deadlines.

Postdoctoral Fellowship

The BEAT Lab will be recruiting a postdoctoral fellow to begin Fall 2026 to contribute to ongoing NIH-funded studies examining the impact of psychological distress and loss on cardiovascular health. The fellow will have opportunities for manuscript writing, data analysis, and developing independent projects under Dr. Chirinos’ mentorship. Expectations are tailored to the fellow’s career stage, with an emphasis on preparing for a successful transition to research independence.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in health psychology/behavioral medicine or related field, with strong training in statistics; prior experience in epidemiology is preferred.

Inquiries about the position are welcome and can be directed to dchirinos@miami.edu
